What a great day it is to see the transom installed on Hagoth. The height of this transom will impress the most casual observer. It instills a feeling of confidence and security. I’ve never seen a boat this small with this degree of freeboard and buoyancy.
If you look closely, you’ll notice I added glass tape over the inside fillets. I also added a fillet to the outside edge of the aft cleat.4 screws hold the entire transom in place while it cures. This is a technique I learned while building Skiff America. Instead of counter sinking the screws (which makes a big hole, which you later have to fill and sand) I’m using washers backed by wax paper. Once cured, I remove the screws, leaving a very small hole that is easy to fill. The washer provides excellent clamping support and keeps the screw from damaging the wood.
I’m now ready to design the lazarette, while I still have good access to this area. It’s such a fun time to be working on my Scamp.
